VALORANT Bans Explained: Vanguard, HWID Bans and What to Do Next

Tell an account ban from a hardware ban in VALORANT, learn what Vanguard reads at boot, and see which recovery steps work and which waste your money.

VALORANT match screen used to illustrate account and hardware ban recovery

Your account goes down on a Tuesday. You make a new one, download the client, and queue. Eleven minutes into the first match, that one dies too. You make a third. It dies faster.

At that point most players buy another cheat, assuming the last one got detected. They buy the wrong thing. The problem moved from your account to your computer, and no cheat licence fixes a machine that Riot has already blocked.

This guide covers how to tell which kind of ban you have and what each one costs to clear. For settings that reduce your odds of collecting one, read our VALORANT aimbot settings guide.

Three different blocks, three different fixes

Players use the word "banned" for situations that behave nothing alike.

Account ban. Riot disables the login. Your machine stays clean. A new account plays without trouble.

Hardware ban. Riot records identifiers from your computer and refuses any account that appears on them. New accounts die within minutes, sometimes before the first round ends.

Vanguard error. The client refuses to start or throws a code at launch. Often a configuration problem rather than a ban, and often fixable by turning TPM or Secure Boot back on in your BIOS.

Buying a solution before you know which of the three you have is how people spend sixty dollars fixing a problem that needed nothing.

The diagnostic that takes ten minutes

Make a fresh account on the same computer. Play one unrated match to completion.

The match finishes without trouble. Your machine is clean. You had an account ban, and a new account is the whole fix. Spend your money on nothing.

The account dies inside the first few matches. The block sits on your hardware. A fourth account behaves the same way as the third, so stop making them.

The client refuses to launch at all. Read the error code. Vanguard rejects machines with Secure Boot or TPM 2.0 disabled, and that rejection looks like a ban to anyone who has just been banned.

Run this test before you buy anything. It costs one match and it decides which of two very different products you need.

What Vanguard reads

Vanguard loads at boot as a kernel driver, before Windows finishes starting and long before you open the game. That position lets it read hardware identity at a level ordinary software cannot reach.

It reads serials from your disks, your motherboard, your network adapter and your TPM module, then combines them into a fingerprint. When that fingerprint appears with a new account after a ban, Riot has everything it needs.

Riot states that unauthorised software can end in a permanent ban. Treat the permanent part as accurate. Appeals for cheating detections succeed rarely enough that planning around one is planning to lose.

What does not clear a hardware ban

Players try these in roughly this order, and none of them work.

A new email and a new account. The block reads your hardware, and your hardware did not change.

A VPN. Your IP is one weak signal among many. Changing it leaves every serial in place.

Reinstalling Windows. A clean install replaces the operating system and keeps every hardware serial exactly where it was. This one costs people an entire evening.

Changing your MAC address. One identifier out of several. Vanguard reads the others and matches you anyway.

Swapping one drive. Same problem. Replace a disk and your motherboard, TPM and network adapter still report the same values.

The pattern holds across all five. Each changes part of the fingerprint while the rest of it stays put.

What does clear it

A permanent spoofer rewrites the identifiers at firmware level, below the operating system, so the new values survive a restart and a clean Windows install.

For VALORANT the tier matters. Vanguard loads at boot and reads deeper than a session tool reaches, so a temporary spoofer does nothing here. Our Permanent Spoofer covers Vanguard on the lifetime licence at $59.99. The $24.99 one time tier excludes VALORANT, and it cannot be upgraded into that coverage after purchase.

Setup is real work. It needs a Windows reinstall, an 8GB USB drive and a BIOS flash on a supported board. Acer, ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Dell, Gigabyte, Lenovo, MSI, NZXT and Predator are covered. Check yours before you pay, because a licence you cannot apply is money gone. Full comparison sits on the HWID spoofer page.

Order of operations

People get this backwards and pay twice.

  1. Run the diagnostic. Confirm the ban sits on your hardware.
  2. Check your motherboard against the supported list.
  3. Buy and apply the spoofer. Complete the reinstall and the flash.
  4. Verify the new identifiers before you launch anything.
  5. Make a fresh account. Never sign into the banned one.
  6. Buy your cheat licence.

Step six comes last for a reason. A licence bought on day one spends its clock while you work through a BIOS flash, and week licences expire whether you play or not.

One more thing at step four. Leave old system images alone, because restoring a backup from before the spoof writes the flagged serials straight back and undoes the work.

What recovery actually costs

SituationWhat you needCost
Account ban onlyA new accountNothing
Vanguard error at launchSecure Boot and TPM enabled in BIOSNothing
Hardware ban, VALORANTPermanent Spoofer, lifetime tier$59.99
Hardware ban, other titlesPermanent Spoofer, one time tier$24.99

Add a cheat licence once the machine is clear. VALORANT products start at $7.99 on the VALORANT cheats page.

Reducing the odds of the next one

Bans arrive from two directions. Automated detection catches the software. Player reports start a human review that catches the behaviour.

You control the second one. A narrow aim FOV, medium smoothing and chest bone priority produce motion that survives a spectator, and a restrained ESP keeps you from reacting to information you should not have. Our settings guide covers the values, and the buyer's guide covers which product runs them.

Players who collect three bans in a season usually run the same maximum config each time. The account changes and the habits do not.

FAQ

How do I know if my VALORANT ban is hardware based?

Make a fresh account on the same computer and play one full match. If that account dies within minutes, the block sits on your hardware. If it plays normally, you had an account ban and a new account is the entire fix.

Can I appeal a VALORANT cheating ban?

Riot treats cheating detections as permanent. Appeals exist, and they succeed rarely enough in cheating cases that building a recovery plan around one leaves you stuck.

Will a temp spoofer work for VALORANT?

No. Vanguard loads at boot and reads identifiers before a session level tool can act. VALORANT needs the permanent spoofer on the lifetime tier.

Does reinstalling Windows remove a hardware ban?

No. A clean install replaces your operating system and leaves every hardware serial untouched. Plenty of players lose an evening to this before discovering it changed nothing.

Why did my new account get banned so fast?

Vanguard matched your hardware fingerprint the moment the client started. The speed is the signal, since an account that dies in minutes rather than days points at hardware rather than at anything you did in the match.

Should I buy the cheat or the spoofer first?

Spoofer first. A cheat licence does nothing on a blocked machine, and short licences burn their days while you work through the reinstall and BIOS flash.

Where to start

Run the ten minute diagnostic before you open your wallet. Most players who think they need a spoofer had an account ban, and most players who keep buying cheat licences needed a spoofer three purchases ago.

Once you know which problem you have, the HWID spoofer page covers the tiers and requirements, and support confirms motherboard compatibility before you pay.
